In the context of its ongoing efforts to document cases of loss and enforced disappearance in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Center for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons (PCMFD) has completed the documentation of the case of Mr. Hassan Nader Abu Ali, whose traces were lost under circumstances that raise real fears for his life and personal safety.
Circumstances of Disappearance: According to documented information, 28-year-old Hassan Abu Ali, a married resident of the Al-Shati refugee camp, went missing on Friday, May 16, 2025. He left his family’s displacement site heading to the “Al-Sudaniya – Cairo Hall” area in the northern Gaza Strip to search for “firewood for cooking.” Since then, there has been no news or contact from him. It is noted that he was not carrying a mobile phone or identification documents at the time he left.
Technical and Human Rights Data:
-
Scope of Control: The disappearance occurred in an area that was near zones controlled by the Israeli army, which strengthens the belief that Israeli forces are responsible for targeting him or taking him to an unknown location.
-
Absence of Information: No direct eyewitness accounts were available at the moment of disappearance due to the military danger of the area at that time.
-
Search Operations: The victim’s family conducted extensive searches, including hospitals, shelters, and neighboring areas, to no avail. The family also contacted the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), HaMoked, and the Addameer Center, all of which confirmed that there are no records of him in official Israeli detention lists or prisons to date.
Legal Actions: Acting as an authorized representative of the family, the Center filed the case file with the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances in Geneva on January 13, 2026, to demand that Israeli authorities immediately disclose his whereabouts.
The Palestinian Center for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons holds the Israeli authorities fully legally and morally responsible for the life of Hassan Abu Ali. It calls upon the international community and UN organizations to exert serious pressure to reveal the fate of thousands of civilians facing an unknown fate under similar circumstances.
